The Artist is dead. Anyone who thinks they are an artist, is an angst-ridden designer who has not accepted the reality of our post-modern, globalization-fueled, corporate new world society. There are no places for artists of the Liberal Arts, Nineteenth Century, Modernist definition. The artist as the purveryor of Truth has become a marketing slogan. and the Global Art Market has reduced artists to makers of fine commodities to be bought and traded by the wealthy. They don't want to hear your nonsense of aesthetics, beauty, social responsibility. Their way has worked. They are paying the artists' way, so they don't have to listen. The masses want design, decoration, and nothing intrusive. Entertainment and spectacle are the realms of the artist today. In fact, they should call themselves cultural producers and drop the baggage, false dreams, and pretension attached to the outworn title of "artist".
Just a thought.
See you Wedensday.
